Descrizione

È lungo fino a 45 cm, marrone e giallo sulla testa e sul dorso, più chiaro in basso con macchie più scure lungo i lati. La forma del suo corpo è lunga e appiattita lateralmente, la bocca è quasi verticale nella testa. La metà anteriore della prima pinna dorsale è nera e consiste di tre spine altamente velenose, così come le spine rivolte all'indietro sulle estremità delle coperture branchiali.

Diffusione

Presente nel mar Mediterraneo e nell'Oceano Atlantico tra il Portogallo e l'Africa del sud. È la tracina meno comune nei mari italiani. Vive su fondi sabbiosi tra 5 e 100 m.
